Media Converters
Media Converters reduce cabling cost
by providing flexible fiber optic solutions for Ethernet
LANs and WAN connectivity. Designed in a compact,
strong metal case, models are available for direct connection
to RJ-45 and fiber optic ports on both Ethernet and Fast
Ethernet devices or single-mode fiber carrier demarcation
points.
All Fast Ethernet fiber optic to twisted
pair models incorporate a built-in 2-port switch to allow
maximum fiber extension and easy connection to legacy Ethernet
devices over a Fast Ethernet fiber backbone.

The Signamax 065-1195 1000BaseT to 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet
media converter provides a simple way to extend distances
over multi-mode fiber for 1000BaseT network interface cards,
switches, and routers. It is 100% compliant with Ethernet
IEEE 802.3ab and 802.3z specifications and is FCC Part 15
of Class A and CE approved.
This converter maintains the same form factor as other
Signamax media converters, allowing it to be used in the
065-1180 rackmount chassis for mixed or multiple Ethernet
/ Fast Ethernet / Gigabit Ethernet installations.

Fiber Optic Media Converter
Models are available for direct connection
to RJ-45 and fiber optic ports on both Ethernet and Fast
Ethernet devices, or for use with Single-mode fiber carrier
demarcation points. These offer a wide variety of conversion
solutions, providing network expansion and segmentation
at the lowest cost possible.
Each Media Converter is enclosed in
a compact, strong metal case and includes an external power
supply for stand-alone applications.
They can also be installed without modification
in the Signamax 065-1180 Rack Mount Chassis featuring redundant
power supplies for high reliability and in multiple installations.

The multi-functional design eliminates
the need to stock separate units for the Rack Mount Chassis
and for stand-alone requirements.
LED diagnostics for Power, Link, Activity,
and Partition (model 065-1160 only) are included.
All Media Converters are fully compliant
with the IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet
standards, as well as meeting CE and FCC Part 15 Class A
standards for safety and radio frequency emissions.

Rack Mount Media Converters
Chassis
The rack mount chassis is a carrier or enterprise-level
rack mount system for Signamax Connectivity Systems Media
Converters. The chassis permits the same Media Converter
to be used as a standalone or a rack mount component, reducing
the number of on-site spares required in most network applications.
The chassis is supplied with two fully redundant,
load-sharing power supplies, which can be taken off-line
and removed from the unit when the Media Converters are
operating. As long as one power supply remains on, the intelligence
in the power backplane maintains a constant voltage to the
power bays.
As a standard feature, the chassis ships with three fully
redundant, load-sharing cooling fans.
Each of the fans has an individual status
lamp on the front panel to monitor the cooling capability.
The system uses steel carriers to secure the individual
converters in the bay.
This means that the Media Converter's case
does NOT accept any load from or provide a load against
the power backplane.

Additionally, the carrier presents a hard metal-to-metal
stop when the Media Converter is loaded, without depending
on the connector or the backplane to absorb the shock of
hard impact. This carrier system also serves to align the
Media Converter to the power connector precisely, further
increasing reliability.
